PASTURE UPDATE: The cows are currently grazing wheat and clover in two of our 10 pasture lots. In most of the other pasture lots ,winter ryegrass is coming up and is almost ready for grazing.Recently, several pasture lots were seeded with winter wheat .The cows love lush green grass. Seeding the pasture lots with different grasses gives the cows a variety and boosts milk production.

Our lush pastures translate into more antioxidants, CLAs, omega 3s  and flavonoids. Add that to the fact that milk already is an excellent source of calcium, protein, and minerals and you have the very best product available in Hatcher Milk!

Photos

I am a newly registered visitor to your website. I work for Rutherford Farmers Coop in Murfreesboro. My name is Nancy Walls.

You have the most beautiful photos in your gallery!!!!

I hope you don't mind, and I should have asked for permission first, BUT your photo of the single cow standing along side the "chocolate milk" river is now my computer background!
Your photographer should submit that photo to a magazine! It wins a prize in my book!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for letting me join your "cyber family"

Nancy

Re: Pasture Update

Dear Hatcher family,

I worked with Jennifer at the veterinary school, and I cannot remember if we ever talked about how many cows your family milks at one time? Also, where is the picture of the chocolate milk river? Love your web page!! Does your family put up their own hay and what kind of hay do the girls eat? Jamie Stuffle

Re: Pasture Update

Jamie Stuffle,Sorry for the late response. We milk 12 cows at a time and are currently milking 45 cows. The chocolate milk river is a secret and you will have to come on a farm tour to find out.We graze winter and summer and put up a little mixed grass hay, clover, orchard grass and other seasonal grasses.Charlie Hatcher

Jennifer's Good News

I am so very pleased to hear that my son Chuck has asked Jennifer to marry him and I am especially pleased she said yes! She is a special lady and she is marrying a great guy(I am biased!)

Re: Word From the Herd

I know I can speak for all of the Hatcher's by saying that we are so proud of Jennifer's choice of Chuck. We too are in love with him. Doesn't hurt that he's not bad to look at and has a strong back! We were in need of some reinforcements here on the farm. Ha! :)Lucy H

Re: Word From the Herd

Murphy's law has had it's way with the processing plant and we are still not yet up and running-very close however. Arno Road also has not yet re-opened as the winter cold has effected the paving opportunities. May be mid March we're told.

On a good note- winter pastures are great and the cows are kicking out some awesome milk!

Farm tours are starting to book- Thursdays9:30am beginning mid March. We'll have all the updates soon. Hopefully the Road should be open, processing facility open, and great spring weather. Yee Haw!

Re: Word From mom of your biggest fan!

Dear Hatcher Family,

So grateful for your wonderful cows and milk!! Also, most happy to hear that gallons are coming as it is getting harder to keep my 13y/o boy full of your milk. He LOVES it. Says it is the BEST milk he has ever tasted and wants nothing else. Looking forward to trying to beef soon. We must come for a tour.

Thanks so much!

Re: Word From the Herd

I was flipping through the tv on May 14th and I saw your show on MTV, I usually don't watch MTV but the farm caught my eye. I am a single father of a soon to be 3 yr. old son and I also have 2 daughters. I just wanted to say God Bless your family for the work with the two teenagers. The values you have given these kids will last a life time. I have put my oldest daughter through college and she is now expecting my 1st grandaughter in July. My other Daughter is going to be 17 in July and she already has a full scholarship to UNC at Chapel Hill. It is hard for me as I am single but I put my faith in the Lord and I know he is always there for me and my family as well as everyone that wants to accept him whole heartedly. Again God Bless you all and I love your farm. Sincerely, Roger Talley P.S. Email me if you have time. fobrt2156@yahoo.com

Re: Word From the Herd

I also saw your work with the teens on the MTV show. You are truly an inspiring family and set a wonderful example for people of all ages. It's wondeful to see that faith in God, hard work, and committment to family produces such wonderful results. These are all traits I hope to instill in my two young daughters.
On the dairy side...even out here in the west, the small, family run businesses are struggling. I have good friends that own a dairy milking 60-75 cows at a time who are always fighting to compete with the larger dairies. I love what you are doing with your farm. Keep up the good work!

Re: Word From the Herd

I also saw your episode of 'World's Strictest Parents.' I'm from a small town in Oklahoma and there are a few dairy farms. Im 25 and a teacher. I agree that children need to be guided in the right direction. So many of my students have never been to the country or seen a real cow. I think you did a great job with the teenagers. Kids these days have the wrong idea about so many things and don't value the things that should truely be valued. I also must say, I think your son Charles is a cutie:) You don't find many good country boys anymore. Loved watching the show!

Just finished watching the Worlds Strictest Parents on MTV. I think your family did a wonderful job with Reed and Jessica. It was so great to see how your family values and hard work changed those kids in to caring teenagers. You should be proud.

Re: Word From the Herd

Thanks everyone for the motivating words!

Now for a fall farm update.

Our milk sales are continuing to rise which is of course a great thing. We are nearing the point that all of our milk will leave the farm with a "Hatcher" label and none will have to be sold to a bulk wholesaler. That means we set the price for our milk which ultimately translates into staying a float!

Things are running smoother in our processing plant and we are starting to feel like pros.
We've had good rain this summer so silage and hay for the winter are in good supply and the late fall and winter pastures are taking off. The girls (dairy herd) are content and enjoying the cooler temps we've had this summer. The day care and nursery are full of happy Hatcher calves.
Farm tours are staying booked close to 2 months out and other than working around all the rain are a huge success. Just wish we had the time to offer them more.

The Franklin Farmers Mkt. (Saturdays 8am-1pm) and Murfreesboro Farmer Mkts. (each Tues. & Friday 6am-11am through Oct.) continue to be a great added retail source for us as well as a way to spread the work about Hatcher Dairy. Come join us for some fun local flavor.

We've purchased our second delivery truck and are now on the road 6 days a week!

Our "Dinner at the Dairy" nights have been such a hit that they are booked before we can promote them. A meal planned around our own all natural beef and local organic produce from our friends the Delvins served on our patio underneath the stars makes for a special evening. Add great live music from some of our gifted/ famous neighbors and friends and you have a first class, unique, memorable experience.

Thanks for choosing to buy local.

Re: Word From the Herd

World's Strictest Parents? I can believe - hardest working, most fun-loving, best looking,(I could go on and on), but strict? I didn't know the kids were that hard on you! I member them as being pretty easy on you two! Glad to read and see your success, and I would love to sit down and catch up. I'm into "Nomie" hood in a big way - Andy has two boys, Walker is almost 4 and Anden is almost 18 months, Angie's Riley is 7 and in the second grade, and Ryan is 3 months old. Do you deliver chocolate milk by the truckload? Also do you ever think about the "old" crowd we showed with? When is the wedding? Would like to send my other daughter something!
Love,
Shirley
