Fresh Fine Milk From a Farmer You Know
Meet Our Hatcher Family Cows
First Calf Heifer #16.

First Calf Heifer #16. First calf means this is her first year of milking.

Favorite thing to do:
She loves to be milked.  Cows are creatures of habit; she always is one of the first cows to be milked.  Notice that her father is a Jersey and her mother is a Holstein.  We call the result of this mating a crossbrerd.  A crossbreed can result in the good characteristics of both breeds.  In her case it worked, she is a smaller cow (more efficient, especially for grazing) and the butterfat content of her milk is high.  High butterfat content is good because most of the benefits of grass are attached to the fat in milk.

So, here's to you #16, the cow of the month, adding diversity and butterfat to Hatcher Family Dairy.
